Department of Law, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University

The Department of Law at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) in Surat, Gujarat, is a distinguished institution offering comprehensive legal education. Established in 1966, the department has evolved to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in law. At the undergraduate level, the department offers a five-year integrated B.Com LL.B. (Hons.) program with an approved intake of 120 seats. Admission to this program is merit-based, considering the marks obtained in the 10+2 examination. For postgraduate studies, the department provides an LL.M. program with specializations in Criminal Law (Law & Deviance) and Business Law, introduced from the academic year 2021-2022. The LL.M. program has an approved intake of 63 seats, and admissions are also merit-based, requiring candidates to have completed their LL.B. or equivalent degree from a recognized university. 

The department is equipped with modern facilities to support effective legal education. These include a departmental library housing over 4,000 books, a computer laboratory with internet access and legal research software like Manupatra, a moot court hall designed to simulate real courtroom experiences, and ICT-enabled classrooms with projectors and internet connectivity. Additionally, the department provides Wi-Fi facilities for students and staff. Veer Narmad South Gujarat University itself is a public university established in 1965 and named after the renowned Gujarati poet Narmadashankar Lalshankar Dave, popularly known as Narmad. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has been accredited with an 'A' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
