The Department of Law at the University of Kashmir, Srinagar, is a prominent institution dedicated to providing comprehensive legal education in the region. Established in 1973 through the efforts of Prof. A.A. Wani and Prof. Riyaz Punjabi, the department began its journey in Gandhi Bhawan with Prof. M.R. Zaffer as its first head. Over the years, it has evolved into a leading center for legal studies in Jammu and Kashmir.  The department offers a range of programs, including the 5-year integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), 3-year LL.B., and one-year LL.M. courses. These programs are designed to provide students with a solid foundation in legal principles, critical thinking, and practical skills. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing students for diverse careers in the legal field.

The faculty comprises experienced educators and legal professionals who are committed to academic excellence and mentorship. The department also encourages student engagement through various activities organized by the Law Society, a student body that hosts debates, seminars, and moot court competitions.
