Patna Law College, established in July 1909, stands as one of India's oldest and most esteemed institutions dedicated to legal education. Initially, legal studies were conducted at Patna College, but with the growing demand for specialized legal education, Patna Law College was founded as an independent entity. It was affiliated with Calcutta University until 1917, after which it became a constituent college of the newly established Patna University. In 1952, under the Patna University Act of 1951, it transitioned from a government institution to a constituent college of Patna University .Throughout its history, Patna Law College has been instrumental in shaping the legal landscape of India. The college has produced notable alumni, including two Chief Justices of India—Justice B.P. Sinha and Justice L.M. Sharma—and the first Attorney General of India from Bihar, Sri Lal Narain Sinha. Its alumni network extends to numerous Supreme Court and High Court judges, esteemed jurists, accomplished advocates, renowned academicians, and proficient administrators. In the political arena, the college boasts alumni such as Sri Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister of Bihar; Sri Sushil Kumar Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar; and Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, former Law Minister of India .Academically, Patna Law College offers a three-year LL.B. program, adhering to the updated syllabi prescribed by the Bar Council of India. The program is structured into six semesters, culminating in the LL.B. degree awarded by Patna University upon successful completion of examinations conducted in three parts: LL.B.
