Overview
Established in 1917 as a humble Anglo-Sanskrit School, this distinguished institution in Uttar Pradesh has steadily evolved over the decades. It was elevated to a middle school in 1918, a high school in 1920, and became an intermediate college by 1923. In 1946, it attained degree college status, and by 1954, it had expanded into a comprehensive institution offering Arts, Science, and Commerce programs.
Today, it stands as the largest affiliated college of the University of Lucknow, serving approximately 10,000 students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The college encompasses faculties in Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Education (B.Ed.), International Business (BBA-IB), and Physical Education (B.P.Ed.), supported by a dedicated staff of over 400 members.
The institution's growth was significantly supported by the generous contributions of Late Pt. Deen Dayal Misra. Under the guidance of Late Justice Gokaran Nath Misra, the college flourished further. The Misra Brothers—Raoraja Shyam Bihari and Sukhdev Bihari Misra—affectionately known as "Misra Bandhu," played a pivotal role in its advancement. The visionary efforts of Late Pt. Shri Narain Misra (Bappaji) and Late Pt. Suraj Din Bajpai, former Deputy Secretary of Finance, Government of U.P., also greatly contributed to its educational mission.
Late Raisahib Pt. Jai Narain Misra (Kakaji), who served as Secretary-Manager from the outset and later as President, is regarded as the principal architect and guiding force behind the institution. A renowned philanthropist, Kakaji was instrumental in establishing numerous educational trusts and societies in Lucknow and beyond. His unwavering commitment and substantial financial support were central to the college’s transformation into a leading academic institution in both Uttar Pradesh and India. In recognition of his contributions, the college was named in his honor. It was previously known as Kanya Kubja College, a name reflecting the ancient identity of Uttar Pradesh during the reign of Harshvardhana in the 7th century A.D.
Currently, Shri V.N. Mishra (Retired Director General of Police, U.P.) serves as President of the Managing Committee, Shri G.C. Shukla holds the position of Secretary-Manager, and Shri Nageshwar Pandey is the Principal of the college.
