Overview
St. Joseph’s College of Law in Bengaluru, founded in 2017 and administered by the Jesuit Society of Jesus, is the first Jesuit law college in South Asia. Positioned in Residency Road near the heart of the city, it is affiliated with Karnataka State Law University (Hubballi) and approved by the Bar Council of India.
The college offers a comprehensive legal education: a three-year LL.B. and three five-year integrated programs—B.A. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B., and B.Com LL.B.—with admissions based largely on merit, supplemented by a college-level test and interview . From the very start, students are immersed in practical law—interning in courts and NGOs, participating in legal aid clinics, and engaging in moot court proceedings and advocacy exercises .
The campus architecture links heritage inspiration with modern design, housing two dedicated blocks for undergraduate and postgraduate law programs. Inside, one finds an electronics-enabled library stocked with essential legal texts and journals, spacious moot halls, seminar and lecture rooms, a cafeteria, sports facilities, gym, and separate hostels . The new campus at St. Joseph’s is a blend of Jesuit educational legacy and contemporary learning spaces .
Scholarships and financial aid are offered to deserving students, and the placement cell facilitates internships and career opportunities—students have been placed in organizations such as Amazon, TCS, Accenture, and Cleartax, with average salary packages reaching around ₹10 LPA (lowest recorded ₹3.5 LPA; highest up to ₹15 LPA) .
Aligned with its guiding motto Fide et Labore (“By Faith and Work”), SJCL emphasizes ethical practice, experiential learning, and social justice. Drawing on the broader St. Joseph’s University tradition—dating back to 1882—it focuses on building legal professionals rooted in competence, morality, and community service.
