Overview
Gandhi Hospital has a rich legacy dating back to 1851, when it was first established as a modest infirmary with just three wards. By 1900, it had grown into a Cantonment Hospital with a capacity of 95 beds. In 1913, it was renamed King Edward Memorial Hospital, continuing its steady development. A significant milestone was reached in 1958 when it was transformed into a teaching hospital affiliated with Gandhi Medical College, which itself was founded in 1954 and received recognition from the Medical Council of India (MCI) in 1956. Today, Gandhi Hospital boasts a bed strength of 1,200.
Now a premier center for post-doctoral medical education and training, Gandhi Hospital serves not only the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, but also caters to the healthcare needs of neighboring districts. It holds the distinction of being the first center in the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh to perform open heart surgery and the first to establish a Cath Lab, providing specialized training to DM Cardiology students.
