Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Mand

Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital (SLBS GMCH) is a prominent public medical institution located in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India. Established in 2009, it has evolved into a significant center for medical education and healthcare services in the region.​

History and Establishment: Initially founded as the Employee's State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College in 2009 by Shri Oscar Fernandes, the then Minister of Labour & Employment, Government of India, the institution underwent a transition in 2016. The management was handed over to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, and the college was renamed Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College. It welcomed its first batch of 100 students in May 2017, and patient services commenced in October 2018. In 2021, the college affiliated with Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), Mandi. ​

Campus and Infrastructure: The campus is situated in the picturesque Balh Valley at Ner Chowk, approximately 120 km from Shimla and 180 km from Chandigarh, adjacent to National Highway 154. It spans 23 acres and offers state-of-the-art facilities, including:​

• • Lecture theatres, demonstration rooms, central library, and examination halls.​An 800-seat auditorium for various events and seminars

  • Hostel and Residential Facilities:​Separate hostels for boys, girls, nursing students, and residents.

  • Indoor facilities like a gymnasium, badminton hall, and table tennis.​

  • Outdoor facilities including football ground, hockey field, and basketball court.​

• Hospital Facilities:​

  • A 500-bed hospital with intensive, cardiac, and pediatric care units.

  • Ten modern, modular operation theatres, laboratories, blood center, dialysis unit, and advanced diagnostic center.​

  • Centralized medical gases supply and an Inter Facility Transport Optimization (IFTO) system. ​

Academic Programs: SLBS GMCH offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various medical disciplines:​

• Undergraduate: MBBS program with an annual intake of 120 students, totaling 560 students currently.​

• Postgraduate: Courses in Microbiology and Pharmacology.​

• Diplomate of National Board (DNB): Specializations in Anesthesiology, Medicine, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, and Surgery.
