History: The origins of RPGMC trace back to October 28, 1952, when the foundation stone for a tuberculosis sanatorium was laid by Mr. Chandulal Trivedi, the Governor of Punjab, on behalf of philanthropist Rai Bahadur Jodhamal Kuthiala. This sanatorium was inaugurated on May 21, 1958, by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. Recognizing the need for advanced medical education in the region, the Government of Himachal Pradesh decided to establish a medical college on this site. The foundation stone for the college was laid on October 23, 1996, by then Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh. The institution received provisional recognition from the Medical Council of India (MCI) on February 24, 2005, and attained permanent recognition in January 2010.
