Established in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College and elevated to the status of a National Institute of Technology in 2002, NIT Calicut is one of India’s 31 premier institutions of national importance governed by the NIT Act of 2007. Fully funded by the Government of India, the institute is dedicated to advancing technical education and research across engineering, science, technology, and management disciplines.

Located at the foothills of the Western Ghats, about 22 km northeast of Calicut (Kozhikode) in Kerala, the campus spans over 120 hectares of serene landscape. The region of Malabar, rich in history and ecological beauty, provides a unique backdrop for academic and personal growth.NITC is a fully residential campus, equipped with modern academic blocks, research laboratories, hostels, faculty residences, and recreational amenities. The institute currently offers 11 undergraduate, 29 postgraduate, and doctoral programs, including an MBA. Its research output has grown significantly, with a notable rise in publications and patents. The transformation from REC to NIT was driven by the need to align with evolving educational demands and to promote national integration through high-quality education. NITC has embraced this mandate by fostering collaborations with leading research organizations, industries, and academic institutions, positioning itself as a catalyst for regional and national development.
