Visa Registration

VISA REGISTRATION

For students enrolled at Orenburg State Medical University (OSMU), completing the visa registration process is a mandatory legal requirement that begins immediately upon arrival in Russia. The university’s International Students Office plays a central role in guiding and assisting students through this process.

Arrival and Initial Registration

Migration Card: Upon entering Russia through any port of entry (such as an airport), you will be issued a migration card. This is a two-part document that must be filled out accurately. The border control officer will retain one part and return the other to you. It is essential to declare "EDUCATION" as your purpose of visit. Keep this card safe, as it is a critical document for your legal stay in Russia.

Reporting to the University: Within three business days of arrival, you must report to the International Students Office at OSMU. This is a strict legal requirement. Failure to comply may result in fines or deportation.

Document Submission: The university will manage the visa registration process on your behalf. You will need to submit the following documents:

  • Original passport

  • Migration card received at the border

  • Student visa

  • Any additional documents requested by the university

Visa Extension and Ongoing Registration

Initial Visa Validity: The student visa issued initially is typically a single-entry visa valid for 90 days. To continue your studies, it must be extended.

Visa Extension Process: The university oversees the visa extension procedure. You must submit the required documents at least 30 to 40 days before your current visa expires.

Documents Required for Extension: Commonly required documents include:

  • Passport

  • Migration card

  • University-issued visa extension application form

  • Recent passport-sized photographs

  • Medical check-up results, including an HIV test (arranged by the university)

Annual Renewal Once extended, the student visa is generally valid for one year. This renewal process must be repeated annually throughout your academic program.

Accommodation and Registration

Your visa registration is directly linked to your place of residence:

  • If you reside in a university hostel, the university will handle your registration.

  • If you live in a private apartment, your landlord is legally responsible for registering your residence.

Maintaining proper registration is essential to avoid legal complications during your stay in Russia.
