The Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Indore bench has temporarily halted the release of the NEET UG 2025 results due to disruptions caused by a power failure at an exam centre. The incident occurred at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 in Indore, where a blackout at around 3:30 PM left students writing the medical entrance test in dim conditions. The exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), ran from 2 PM to 5 PM on May 4.
Justice Subodh Abhyankar presided over the case and noted that neither the NTA nor the Union of India had responded to the court’s directive to address the issue. The court criticized the failure to provide proper exam conditions and ordered that the results not be announced until further notice. The exact scope of the stay—whether local or national—has not been clarified.
According to the petition, students were left without lighting for about an hour during the test and were eventually provided candles at around 4:30 PM. This lack of proper backup affected candidates’ performance and prompted calls for a re-exam or alternative remedial measures.
The matter has been compounded by the Ministry of Education’s earlier recommendation—based on a Supreme Court directive—that NEET be shifted to a computer-based format. However, the 2025 edition continued in the traditional pen-and-paper mode.
The High Court has summoned responses from the NTA, the Central Government, and the Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company. The next hearing is scheduled for June 30. Meanwhile, despite the scheduled announcement of NEET UG 2025 results on June 14, the release now remains uncertain until the court issues further instructions.
Petitioners highlighted that many exam centres in Indore lacked generators or contingency plans, even though a thunderstorm warning had been issued in advance. Advocate Mridul Bhatnagar, representing the affected candidates, told PTI that the power outage disrupted the examination at multiple centres, forcing some students to finish their papers under candlelight.
