NEET UG 2025 Result Postponed Following Madras High Court Stay

The Madras High Court has temporarily halted the release of the NEET UG 2025 results following complaints from students who faced significant difficulties during the exam at the Avadi exam centre near Chennai. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is now required to respond to the court before the results can be published, causing concern and uncertainty among students across India.

What Happened During the Exam?

On May 4, 2025, 13 out of 464 students who appeared for the exam at the Avadi centre filed a petition with the court. A power outage lasting from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM led to poor lighting conditions inside the exam hall. Additionally, heavy rainfall caused water to enter the hall, forcing students to relocate to a different room mid-exam. Although the students requested extra time to compensate for the disruption, the exam officials denied their request.

Court's Decision

The case was heard by Justice V. Lakshminarayanan. On May 16, 2025, the court issued an interim order preventing the NTA from announcing the NEET UG 2025 results until further hearings and until the NTA presents its response. The court has directed the NTA to submit its reply by June 2, 2025.

Meanwhile, the NTA plans to release the provisional answer key for NEET 2025 shortly on its official website. Students will be able to check the answers and raise objections if they find any discrepancies by paying INR 200 per question. After reviewing all objections, the NTA will issue a final answer key.

Original Result Date Postponed

The NEET UG 2025 results were initially scheduled to be announced on June 14, 2025. However, due to the court’s stay, this timeline is now uncertain. The final result announcement date will depend on the court’s further directives. This delay has left students and their families anxious, as NEET is the key entrance examination for undergraduate medical admissions in India. The postponement will also affect admission and counselling schedules, disrupting plans for many aspirants.
