NMC Guidelines for MBBS Abroad – 2025 (Explained)
1. NEET is Mandatory
You must qualify NEET-UG before taking admission abroad. It’s the most important requirement. NEET is valid for 3 years for MBBS abroad.
2. Eligibility Criteria (Class 12)
You must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English in 10 2.
Minimum marks:
-
General: 50%
-
SC/ST/OBC: 40%
3. Course Duration Must Be 5.5 Years or More
The MBBS program must be a minimum of:
-
54 months (4.5 years) of academic study
-
12 months of mandatory internship (in the same country)
4. Internship Must Be Completed Abroad
Internship must be done in the same country as your university. It cannot be done in India or any third country. Otherwise, the degree is not valid.
5. Medium of Instruction Must Be English Only
The entire course must be taught in English. Courses taught partly in local language or bilingual format are not accepted.
6. You Must Be Eligible to Practice in That Country
After completing your MBBS abroad, you should be eligible to apply for a medical license in that country. If not, India will not accept your degree.
7. Dual-Country or Transfer Programs Are Not Valid
Courses done in multiple countries, or transfers from one university to another, are not allowed under NMC rules.
Programs Not Accepted by NMC (2025)
Avoid MBBS abroad programs that:
-
Are shorter than 5.5 years (including internship)
-
Have internship outside the country of study
-
Are taught in any language other than full English
-
Do not make you eligible for local practice
-
Are split between two countries
-
Are joined without qualifying NEET
