NMC Recognized Universities” — A Misleading Claim You Shouldn’t Fall For

NMC Recognized Universities” — A Misleading Claim You Shouldn’t Fall For

You’ve probably seen ads saying: -

  •  “Study MBBS in NMC-recognized universities abroad!”
  •  “Guaranteed NMC approval!”

Let’s be clear — the National Medical Commission (NMC) does NOT recognize or approve any foreign university.

  •  What the NMC Actually Says

Under the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021, NMC does not publish or endorse a list of “approved” universities.

Instead, it defines eligibility criteria that students must meet if they wish to practice medicine in India after earning a foreign degree.

That means — the responsibility isn’t on the university’s “recognition” but on whether your medical education meets NMC’s FMGL standards.

  • Before You Choose a University Abroad, Check:
  1.  Course duration: Minimum 54 months 12 months internship
  2.  Entirely English-medium instruction
  3.  Hands-on clinical training in affiliated hospitals
  4.  Graduates are eligible to practice in that country after graduation
  5. If any of these are missing, your degree may not be valid for NExT/FMGE in India — no matter what any consultant promises.
