NMC eligibility standards

Altai State Medical University (ASMU)  NMC Compliance for Indian MBBS Aspirants

Altai State Medical University is officially recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and fully aligns its MBBS curriculum with the regulatory standards set for foreign medical graduates. This ensures that Indian students graduating from ASMU are eligible to pursue medical licensure and practice in India.

NMC Guidelines & ASMU’s Alignment

Altai State Medical University meets all key criteria outlined by the NMC:

  • University Recognition
ASMU is listed by both the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), affirming its global and Indian recognition.
  • NEET-UG Eligibility
Indian applicants must qualify the NEET-UG exam prior to admission. ASMU mandates submission of a valid NEET scorecard during its admission process.
  • Course Duration & Structure
In accordance with NMC norms, the MBBS program must include 54 months of academic study and a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution. ASMU’s 6-year MBBS program satisfies this requirement in full.
  • Medium of Instruction
The entire curriculum—including theory, clinical rotations, and examinations—is delivered in English, ensuring accessibility and compliance.
  • Clinical Exposure
ASMU provides robust clinical training through its affiliated hospitals in Barnaul, offering hands-on experience that parallels Indian standards.
  • Licensure Validity
The MBBS degree from ASMU is recognized for medical licensure in Russia, fulfilling one of the NMC’s essential conditions for Indian recognition.

Post-Graduation Pathway for Indian Students

To obtain a medical license and practice in India after graduating from ASMU, Indian students must complete the following steps:

  1. Pass the National Exit Test (NEXT)
This mandatory licensure exam has replaced the FMGE and is required for provisional registration in India.
  2. Complete CRMI in India
After clearing NEXT, students must undergo a 12-month Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) in an NMC-approved hospital within India. This is distinct from the internship completed abroad.
  3. Apply for Permanent Registration
Upon successful completion of CRMI and fulfillment of all NMC criteria, graduates can apply for permanent registration with the NMC or respective State Medical Council, enabling legal medical practice in India.
