Overview
Ramaiah Institute of Legal Studies (RILS), part of the MS Ramaiah Foundation in Bangalore, was established in 2016 and is affiliated with Karnataka State Law University, Hubli, and approved by the Bar Council of India . Founded under the educational vision of Dr. M.R. Pattabhiram—son of renowned educator Sri M.S. Ramaiah—it’s shaped to provide holistic legal education rooted in values, ethics, and professional readiness .
RILS offers a five-year integrated B.A. LL.B and BBA LL.B (with 60 seats each) and a three-year LL.B, alongside postgraduate programs like LL.M and specialized diplomas in cyber law and human rights . The curriculum emphasizes a blend of theory and practice through moot courts, legal clinics, internships, seminars, and research projects, along with value-added certification in areas like consumer protection and criminology .
The campus is tightly integrated with science and management schools on MSRIT Road. Though compact, it features functional facilities—smart classrooms, moot hall, well-stocked library (~10,000 volumes, journals), auditorium, cafeteria, computer labs, hostels, sports grounds, gym, and medical services . Students report a friendly, interactive campus atmosphere with active cultural, sports, and legal communities .
Admission is based on CLAT, LSAT‑India, AILET, or RILS's own entrance test, followed by personal interviews—academic criteria require at least 45% in 10+2 (with SC/ST relaxation) .
A proactive placement cell organizes workshops, internships, and campus recruitment. Recruiters include ICICI Prudential, Tata Motors, Asian Paints, Naukri.com, Berger, and PepsiCo, offering skill-building for employability . While precise data on placement percentages is limited, students generally describe faculty as supportive and courses as well-balanced .
RILS is positioned as a solid mid-tier law college in Bangalore, bringing practical exposure, focused pedagogy, and courteous faculty—making it appealing, particularly for those not set on top-tier institutions but seeking robust legal grounding in a supportive environment. It ranks just behind Christ and ahead of other newer entrants
