The Madras High Court has paved the way for the declaration of NEET UG 2025 results by rejecting a batch of petitions that sought a re-exam. Sixteen students had requested a fresh test, citing power outages at four Chennai centres during the May examination.
However, Justice C Kumarappan ruled that the disruptions were too "localised and minor" to justify cancelling the exam for all. He noted that around 22 lakh students appeared for NEET UG 2025, and ordering a re-test for everyone would be unfair.
Previously, on May 17, the court had directed the NTA to temporarily halt result declaration, following complaints that the power cuts led to poor lighting and distractions, potentially impacting performance.
The judge acknowledged that the outages were caused by an unexpected storm, but since the exam was held between 2 pm and 5 pm, students still had access to natural daylight. The court also supported the NTA’s use of “scientific methods” and on-site inspections to assess the situation, and found no evidence of malpractice. As a result, it upheld the NTA’s decision not to conduct a re-exam.
