Alagappa University, a premier State University in Tamil Nadu, stands as a testament to the visionary philanthropy of Padma Bhushan Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar. Established in May 1985 by a Special Act of the State Legislature, the university emerged from a galaxy of educational institutions founded by Dr. Chettiar in the 1950s. While it began as a Unitary type institution, it evolved into an Affiliating University in 2002, now governing numerous colleges in the Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts.
