Overview: Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Institute of Technology (AKIT) is a government-funded engineering institution located at Tanakpur in Champawat district, Uttarakhand. The institute was established in 2016 with the objective of expanding access to quality technical education in the hilly and border regions of the state. Named after Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India and renowned scientist, the institute reflects his vision of education as a means for national development, innovation, and youth empowerment. AKIT functions as a constituent institute of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU), Dehradun, and is approved by AICTE. Being a government institution, it aims to provide affordable, inclusive, and merit-based engineering education, particularly benefiting students from rural, semi-urban, and economically weaker backgrounds.
