Overview
Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (DBRAU), formerly known as Agra University, is a prestigious state-run institution that has served as a cornerstone of higher education in North India for nearly a century. Established on July 1, 1927, the university was born from the collective vision of eminent educationists like Munshi Narain Prasad Asthana and Dr. L.P. Mathur to meet the burgeoning academic needs of the United Provinces. Initially, its jurisdiction was vast, extending over parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. In 1996, the university was renamed in honor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, reflecting its commitment to his ideals of inclusive growth and social justice. Today, it operates as an affiliating university for over 200 colleges across seven districts, including Agra, Mathura, and Aligarh. The university is accredited with an 'A ' Grade by NAAC in its third cycle and is officially recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Its expansive academic ecosystem is spread across four major residential campuses: Paliwal Park (the administrative heart), Khandari (the technical and scientific hub), Chhalesar, and Civil Lines. The infrastructure is robust, featuring a grand Central Library that houses over 158,000 books and 200 research journals, as well as a dedicated Computer Center and a community radio station, "Agra Ki Awaaz 90.4 FM." The university fosters a research-intensive environment with specialized laboratories in the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the School of Life Sciences, including advanced facilities for Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and Pharmaceutical research. Academically, DBRAU offers a multidisciplinary range of programs through its 9 faculties and 43 teaching departments. It has consistently adapted to modern pedagogical standards, integrating the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 into its curriculum. The university's mission, "Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya" (Lead me from darkness to light), is realized through its diverse student body and a faculty dedicated to producing professionals equipped with both technical skills and moral values. With a legacy that includes producing numerous luminaries and maintaining a strong H-index in research publications, the university remains a vital partner for industry and society in Uttar Pradesh.
