Dr. S. & S. S. Ghandhy Government Engineering College, Surat (commonly known as GEC Surat), stands as a premier technical institution in South Gujarat. Established in 2004 by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat, the college was envisioned as a center of excellence to cater to the growing demand for skilled engineering professionals in the industrial hub of Surat. Over the years, the institute has carved a niche for itself by offering high-quality technical education at a highly subsidized cost, making it a preferred choice for meritorious students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The college is affiliated with Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad, and all its programs are strictly approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Furthermore, its core engineering programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), reflecting the institute's commitment to maintaining global standards in curriculum delivery and laboratory infrastructure. The campus, sprawling over approximately 10 acres of prime land in the heart of Surat city, provides a conducive environment for academic rigor and holistic development. The history of the college is rooted in the vision of the Government of Gujarat to expand technical education across the state. In 2004, GEC Surat was one of the eight new government engineering colleges established to bridge the gap between industry requirements and academic supply. Named in honor of the legendary philanthropists and educators Dr. Sorabji and Sarosh Ghandhy, the college inherited a legacy of educational excellence associated with the Ghandhy family in Surat. Since its inception, the institution has witnessed significant growth in its academic offerings, starting with core branches like Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, and subsequently expanding into specialized fields such as Environmental Engineering and Electronics & Communication.
