The Government Institute of Ceramic Technology (GICT) is a premier government technical institute located at Salt Lake, Sector-III, Kolkata, West Bengal. Established in 1941, GICT is one of the oldest and most reputed institutes in India dedicated exclusively to ceramic engineering and ceramic technology. The institute is fully funded by the Government of West Bengal and functions under the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. GICT is approved by AICTE and is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal for its degree programmes. The campus houses academic blocks, specialised ceramic laboratories, pilot plants, workshops, research facilities, and a well-stocked library with technical journals and reference material. Laboratories are equipped for ceramic processing, refractories, glass & glass-ceramics, whitewares, electro-ceramics, and materials testing. The institute provides hostel facilities for students with basic accommodation and mess arrangements.
