Government Dental College Alappuzha is the fourth Government Dental College in the state and the only centre catering speciality dental service in the public sector to the four districts - Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Ernakulam. Even though the college is in the infancy stage, it is already providing quality dental education to the graduate students and cutting edge treatment options to the general public. Apart from teaching and patient care services, the institution has also made major leaps in research in a very short span of time.Government Dental College, Alappuzha (GDC Alappuzha), established in 2014, is a prominent institution in Kerala dedicated to dental education and public oral healthcare.

Affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI), the college offers a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program that spans four and a half years of academic instruction followed by a one-year compulsory internship. Admission to the program is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), with 50 seats available annually, of which 15 percent are reserved under the All India Quota and the remaining 85 percent under the State Quota. The college is equipped with modern infrastructure including advanced dental clinics, laboratories, lecture halls, and a library, along with a Mobile Dental Clinic that extends services to underserved communities. A newly inaugurated building further enhances its capacity for clinical training and research. The faculty comprises experienced professionals across various dental specialties such as Oral Surgery, Periodontics, Orthodontics, and Public Health Dentistry. GDC Alappuzha actively promotes research in areas like implantology, temporomandibular joint disorders, and oral health surveys, contributing to both academic advancement and public health initiatives. As the only government dental college serving the districts of Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Ernakulam, it plays a crucial role in regional oral healthcare through outreach programs, dental camps, and collaborations with local health departments. Interns receive a monthly stipend, gaining hands-on experience in clinical settings that prepare them for careers in private practice, government service, academia, or further postgraduate studies.
