Admission
The admission process for the two-year, full-time MBA program at IIM Sambalpur follows a multi-stage, comprehensive selection criteria that evaluates candidates holistically, not just on their CAT score. IIM Sambalpur conducts its own independent admission process, having moved away from the Common Admission Process (CAP).
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the MBA program, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:
-
Educational Qualification: Hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
-
Note: The minimum aggregate is 45% for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/DAP categories.
-
-
Entrance Exam: Must have appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) and obtained a valid score.
- Application Form fee : Rs.2500
Admission Process: Three Stages
The admission process is divided into three main stages:
Stage 1: CAT-Based Shortlisting
Candidates who have applied to IIM Sambalpur during the CAT registration process are first screened based on minimum qualifying CAT percentiles.
| Category | Sectional Percentile (VARC, DILR, QA) | Overall Percentile (Qualifying Cutoff) |
| General | 65% | 90% |
| EWS | 60% | 80% |
| NC-OBC | 55% | 75% |
| SC | 40% | 55% |
| ST/DAP | 35% | 40% |
Stage 2: Pre-Personal Interview (Pre-PI) Score Calculation
Candidates who meet the minimum cutoffs are invited to submit an online application form. A Pre-PI Score out of a total of 80 points is calculated to shortlist candidates for the Personal Interview (PI).
| Component | Weightage (%) | Marks Awarded (Out of 80) |
| CAT Score | 40% | 40 |
| Work Experience | 20% | 20 (Max for 30 months) |
| Gender Diversity | 10% | 10 (Awarded to Female candidates) |
| Past Academic Performance (PAP) | 10% | 10 (Class X, XII, Graduation) |
| Total Pre-PI Score | 80% | 80 |
Past Academic Performance (PAP): Marks are typically awarded based on the percentage achieved in Class X, XII, and Bachelor's degree, with higher scores for percentages over 90%.
Work Experience: Points are generally awarded on a sliding scale, with maximum marks given for around 30 months of relevant work experience and decreasing for shorter or much longer experience.
Stage 3: Personal Interview (PI) and Final Selection
The shortlisted candidates attend a Personal Interview (PI), which is conducted in either online or offline mode (at Sambalpur or Delhi campus). The final selection list is based on a composite score out of 100.
| Component | Final Weightage (%) |
| Adjusted Pre-PI Score (from Stage 2) | 75% |
| Personal Interview (PI) Score | 25% |
| Total Final Merit Score | 100% |
