Admission
The admission process for the MBA (PGP) program at IIM Visakhapatnam is a rigorous, three-phase process that begins with the CAT exam and culminates in a final merit list based on a composite score.
1. Eligibility Criteria
The primary eligibility requirements are standard for most IIMs:
-
Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA.
-
Relaxation is provided for reserved categories: 45% for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates.
-
-
Entrance Exam: A valid score in the Common Admission Test (CAT).
-
Application: Candidates must have selected IIM Visakhapatnam as one of their preferred IIMs while registering for the CAT exam. (application Fee - Rs. 1000). CAT Selection: Candidates who indicate IIM Visakhapatnam as a preference while filling out the CAT application form are automatically considered for the Phase 1 shortlist. Post-Shortlisting Fee: A non-refundable fee of ₹250 is charged for the detailed application form required by IIM Visakhapatnam once the initial shortlist based on CAT scores is announced. This fee is applicable to candidates across all categories.
-
Provisional Eligibility: Final-year degree students are eligible to apply provisionally.
2. Admission Process: Three Phases
Phase 1: Initial CAT Shortlisting
In this phase, all candidates who selected IIM Visakhapatnam in their CAT application are screened based on minimum sectional and overall CAT percentiles. This is a qualifying cut-off and is lower than the actual expected call-getting percentile.
| Category | VARC Percentile (Min.) | DILR Percentile (Min.) | QA Percentile (Min.) | Overall Percentile (Min.) |
| General | 70 | 70 | 70 | 82 |
| EWS/NC-OBC | 63 | 63 | 63 | 72 |
| SC | 40 | 40 | 40 | 50 |
| ST/PwD | 30 | 30 | 30 | 40 |
Phase 2: Second Shortlist
Candidates who meet the Phase 1 criteria are asked to submit a detailed online application (which includes their academic history, work experience, etc.). A Pre-PI composite score is then calculated to shortlist candidates for the Personal Interview (PI).
| Component | Weightage (%) |
| CAT Score | 50% |
| Class 10th Score | 10% |
| Class 12th Score | 10% |
| Bachelor's Degree Score | 10% |
| Diversity (Gender: Female & Transgender) | 10% |
| Work Experience (or Professional Course) | 10% |
| Total | 100% |
Candidates are shortlisted for the PI based on their rank derived from this composite score.
Phase 3: Final Merit List
Shortlisted candidates participate in the Personal Interview (PI) round. IIM Visakhapatnam may also participate in the Common Admission Process (CAP) for PI conducted by the New/Baby IIMs, and may accept PI scores from other established IIMs like IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, etc. The final selection is based on a component given below .
