Overview
Established in 2008, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is one of the second-generation IITs that has rapidly emerged as a premier center for technical education, research, and innovation in India. Guided by its motto, "Innovating and Inventing in Technology for Humanity," the institute is located on a sprawling, sustainable 576-acre permanent campus in Kandi, Sangareddy, near the IT hub of Hyderabad. Despite its relatively short history of 17 years, IITH has achieved remarkable academic stature. In the NIRF 2025 rankings, it reached the 7th rank among Engineering institutes in India, surpassing several first-generation IITs. It also holds strong positions in Innovation (6th) and Research (15th). The institute is home to over 5,750 students, with a significant 60% of the population enrolled in postgraduate and doctoral programs, reflecting its deep focus on advanced research. The campus itself is a model of energy-efficient and carbon-neutral design. Facilities include radiant-cooled hostel rooms, high-speed fiber-optic connectivity, 24/7 medical clinics, and extensive sports amenities. Beyond core technology, the institute houses the Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Greenko School of Sustainability, emphasizing its commitment to holistic and socially responsible growth.
