Overview: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical institutions in the world. Originally established as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1847, it was later converted into the University of Roorkee in 1949 and eventually declared an Institute of National Importance as the seventh IIT in 2001. Spread across a sprawling 365-acre main campus in Roorkee, featuring Renaissance-style architecture, the institute houses 23 academic departments and the Mahatma Gandhi Central Library, which is fully computerized and houses over 2,75,000 titles. Ranked 1st in Architecture, 6th in Engineering, and 7th Overall by NIRF, the institute recorded a highest package of ₹1.3 Crore per annum (Domestic) and an average B.Tech package of ₹18.34 LPA.
