Overview
Established in 1987 in Hyderabad, MANAGE—originally known as the National Centre for Management of Agricultural Extension—was founded by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, as an autonomous institution. The acronym ‘MANAGE’ is derived from its original title.
In 1992, recognizing its growing significance and nationwide impact, the institute was elevated to the status of a National Institute and renamed the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management.
MANAGE represents India’s strategic response to the evolving challenges in agricultural extension, especially in the context of a rapidly diversifying and technologically advancing agricultural sector. The liberalization and globalization of the Indian economy, coupled with increasingly sophisticated agricultural technologies, necessitated a comprehensive overhaul of the extension system. MANAGE was established to lead this transformation—offering professional guidance, capacity building, and modernization strategies to empower extension organizations and their personnel.
