National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh (NITTTR Chandigarh)

The National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh was established in 1967 to serve as a national centre for training and capacity building of faculty and technical educators in engineering and technology disciplines. It was developed with international cooperation and is currently administered under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The institute is recognized by UGC and AICTE and is academically affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh for degree awards. Located in Sector 26, Chandigarh, NITTTR has a well-equipped campus with academic buildings, seminar halls, laboratories, a library, computing facilities, hostels, and recreational spaces. The focus is on postgraduate education, faculty training, research, and specialised programs rather than large undergraduate intake. It plays a key role in improving the quality of technical education in polytechnics and engineering colleges across northern India. The institute’s laboratories and departments support advanced training in computer science and engineering, electrical engineering (instrumentation & control), electronics & communication, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and engineering education. These labs are combined with modern teaching aids, educational research facilities, and ICT resources for faculty development and postgraduate work. Hostel accommodation is available for students and participants of long-term programs, along with mess facilities and basic amenities. The central library provides access to technical books, research journals, and online resources beneficial for postgraduate and research scholars. NITTTR has contributed significantly to improving technical education quality through curriculum design, instructional development, research, and collaboration with state technical education departments and polytechnic institutions. Its graduates and trained faculty members serve in academia, educational leadership roles, technical institutions, and research organisations.
