Overview: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur was originally established on August 15, 1960, as the Regional Institute of Technology (RIT) Jamshedpur. It was a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Bihar. In 2002, it was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology (NIT) with Deemed University status, and in 2007, it was declared an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. Spanning a sprawling 341.3-acre campus, the infrastructure includes 11 departments, a state-of-the-art central library, a computer center, and 13 hostels. It is located in the industrial hub of Jamshedpur, surrounded by giants like Tata Steel and Tata Motors, providing a unique industry-academic environment. Ranked 82nd in Engineering by NIRF 2025, the institute recorded a highest package of ₹1.44 Crore and an average package of ₹13.62 LPA.
