Overview: National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna) is a premier public technical institute located in Patna, Bihar, along the banks of the River Ganga. The institute traces its origins to 1886 as the Bihar College of Engineering (BCE), making it one of the oldest engineering institutions in India. It was upgraded to National Institute of Technology status in 2004, and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. NIT Patna functions under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, and is centrally funded. Over the years, it has emerged as a leading NIT in eastern India, known for its academic rigor, improving research ecosystem, and competitive student intake.
