Admission to the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Bengaluru, is based on merit through various entrance examinations and specific institutional criteria. NMIT is an autonomous institute affiliated with Nitte (Deemed to be University).

Admission Process

The admission process is conducted primarily through online applications on the official Nitte University website. Candidates must choose their desired course and follow these general steps:

  1. Online Application: Visit the official Nitte admissions portal to register, fill out the application form, and pay the application fee.

  2. Entrance Examination: Depending on the category and course, candidates must appear for the relevant entrance exam. The Nitte University Common Admission Test (NUCAT) is a primary entrance exam conducted by the university for various UG and PG programs. Other recognized exams include:

    • B.Tech: NUCAT, JEE Main (for reserved quota seats), and merit-based selection.

    • M.Tech/MBA/MCA: GATE, Karnataka PGCET, KMAT, CMAT, MAT, or NUCAT.

  3. Counselling & Seat Allotment: Based on the entrance exam ranks or merit scores, candidates are called for counselling or provided an offer letter to confirm their admission.

  4. Document Verification: After receiving an offer, candidates must submit original documents (10th/12th mark sheets, transfer/migration certificates, entrance scorecards, etc.) for verification.

Eligibility Criteria

  • B.Tech Programs: Candidates must have passed the 10 2 (or equivalent) examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Mathematics, and one optional subject (Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science, Electronics, or Information Technology). English must be one of the languages of study.

  • Postgraduate Programs (M.Tech/MBA/MCA): A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for reserved categories).

Categories for Admission

  • General/Merit Category: Admissions are largely based on the NUCAT entrance test.

  • JEE Category: A limited number of seats are reserved for students with a valid JEE Main score.

  • Inclusivity Category: Specific reservation (usually 10-20%) for students who have studied for at least 7 years in India outside Karnataka, provided they meet specific merit criteria.

  • NRI/Foreign National Category: Direct admission is available for NRI, PIO, or OCI candidates, typically based on marks in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry in their qualifying examination.

  • Management Quota: Limited seats are available directly through the management. Candidates can contact the admission office in person for information on this route.
