Puducherry Technological University (PTU) holds a distinguished position as the first state university of the Union Territory of Puducherry. While it gained university status on September 5, 2020, its legacy is rooted in the erstwhile Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC), which was established in 1985. Founded under the 7th Five-Year Plan by the Government of India, PEC quickly grew into one of the most prestigious engineering institutions in the country, and today, as PTU, it continues to be a beacon of technical excellence and innovation. For over three decades, Pondicherry Engineering College functioned as an affiliated college of Pondicherry University, gaining a reputation for academic rigor and high research output. Its elevation to a Technological University was a strategic move by the Government of Puducherry to grant it greater autonomy in academic planning, research funding, and international collaborations. This transition allows PTU to modernize its curriculum more rapidly in response to the evolving needs of the global technology landscape. Infrastructure and Campus Life Spread over a sprawling 210-acre campus along the scenic East Coast Road (ECR) in Pillaichavady, the university provides an ideal environment for learning and growth. The campus infrastructure is comprehensive, featuring: Academic Resources: Well-equipped laboratories, smart classrooms, and a vast central library. Research and Innovation: The campus hosts an Atal Incubation Centre (AIC-PECIC), which fosters a startup ecosystem among students and faculty. Facilities: A modern auditorium, an open-air theatre, specialized sports complexes, a dispensary, and a shopping complex cater to the daily needs of the campus community.
