Regional Dental College (RDC), Guwahati is the first and premier dental institution in the northeastern region of India. Established in 1982, RDC operates under the aegis of the Government of Assam and is affiliated with the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. It is recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI) and functions under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Strategically located near Narakasur Hill in Bhangagarh, Guwahati, the college is easily accessible and serves students and patients from across Assam and neighboring northeastern states. The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in dentistry. The flagship undergraduate course is the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), a five-year program that includes four years of academic instruction followed by a one-year mandatory internship. RDC admits 50 students annually into the BDS program through the NEET-UG entrance exam, with seat allocation managed via centralized counseling conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam for state quota seats and the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota admissions.
At the postgraduate level, RDC offers the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) program in various specialties, including Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The college has 10 MDS seats across these disciplines, and admission is based on performance in the NEET-MDS examination The campus is equipped with modern infrastructure to support both academic and clinical training. Facilities include well-ventilated lecture halls, advanced laboratories, a comprehensive library, and a fully functional dental hospital. The hospital provides outpatient services and specialty clinics, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in treating diverse dental conditions.
