VJTI Mumbai, established in 1887 as the Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute, has been a trailblazer in India's engineering education, research, and training landscape. Prior to independence, VJTI played a crucial role in fostering industrial development across united India. Following independence, it was instrumental in the establishment of prestigious institutions like the IITs and RECs, contributing significantly to the nation's technological advancement. In 1997, VJTI underwent a name change to Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, in tribute to the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Located within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Geology Lab supports various academic endeavors, research initiatives, and practical training sessions. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), endorsed by the Ministry of HRD (Ministry of Education), Government of India, establishes a methodology to rank institutions nationwide. The parameters include Teaching, Learning, and Resources (TLR) with a 30% weightage, Research and Professional Practices (RP) at 30%, Graduation Outcomes (GO) at 20%, Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) at 10%, and Peer Perception (PR) at 10%.
