Overview
Anna University is located in the southern part of Chennai, approximately 3 kilometers from Guindy Railway Station and 10 kilometers from Chennai International Airport. The main campus spans 189 acres, bordered by the Adyar River to the north and Raj Bhavan to the south. The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) campus in Chrompet serves as the university’s second major site, covering 52 acres, while a third campus in Taramani occupies 5 acres. Each campus hosts a range of facilities designed to support the diverse academic, research, and administrative needs of the university community.
In 2001, Anna University transitioned into an affiliating university, bringing all engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu under its jurisdiction. It briefly reverted to a unitary university in 2010, before once again becoming an affiliating university in 2012, with the goal of ensuring consistent standards in engineering education statewide.Today, alongside its four core campuses CEG, MIT, ACT, and SAP Anna University comprises 13 constituent colleges, 3 regional campuses located in Tirunelveli, Madurai, and Coimbatore, and a network of 593 affiliated colleges, including government, government-aided, and self-financing institutions
