Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) Admission Overview

D.A. Pandu Memorial R.V. Dental College offers a comprehensive five-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program, comprising four years of academic instruction followed by a compulsory one-year rotary internship. The annual intake capacity for the BDS course is 50 students.

Admission Procedure-

Admission to the BDS program is strictly based on performance in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). The process is coordinated through a centralized system and involves the following steps:

1. NEET-UG Qualification- Candidates must appear for and successfully qualify the NEET-UG examination. Admission is solely determined by the NEET-UG score.

2. State-Level Counseling- Post declaration of NEET-UG results, candidates are required to participate in the counseling process conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). KEA oversees seat allocation across Government, Private, and NRI quotas based on merit and reservation norms.

3. Seat Allocation- KEA publishes a seat allotment list that reflects candidates’ ranks, preferences, and applicable quotas. Allocation is made in accordance with category-specific guidelines.

4. Admission Formalities- Candidates who are allotted a seat must report to the college for document verification and fee payment. Admission is confirmed upon successful completion of these formalities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for admission to the BDS program, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

Academic Qualification- Completion of 10 2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as mandatory subjects.

Minimum Marks Requirement-

  • General Category: Minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

  • SC/ST Category (Karnataka): Minimum of 40% aggregate marks in the same subjects.

Age Requirement- Candidates must have attained the age of 17 years on or before December 31st of the year of admission.

NEET-UG Score- A valid NEET-UG score is essential. Cut-off ranks for various categories are determined during the KEA counseling process.

Category-Wise NEET 2025 Cut-Offs

Category Cut-Off Marks Range Qualifying Percentile
General (UR/EWS) 686 – 144 50th percentile
OBC/SC/ST 143 – 113 40th percentile
General-PH 126 – 113 45th percentile

Key Observations

  • The cut-off marks have dropped across all categories compared to previous years, largely due to increased exam difficulty and fewer qualifying candidates.

  • For state quota admissions, such as in Karnataka, the actual cut-off for BDS seats may vary depending on seat availability, category, and competition levels.
