Overview The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical institutions in India, with a rich history spanning over 165 years. Established in 1856 as the Calcutta Civil Engineering College, it later became Bengal Engineering College (BE College) and was upgraded to an Institution of National Importance in 2014, becoming the first IIEST in the country. Location: Botanic Garden, Howrah, West Bengal - 711103. It is situated on a lush 121-acre campus on the banks of the Hooghly River. Solar Cell Fabrication Facility: Specialized in thin-film solar technology research. Center for Water and Environmental Research: A newly established center (2025) dedicated to sustainable water management and environmental conservation. Computing Facilities: High-end labs for AI, Machine Learning, and VLSI design are available across departments.
