Overview The National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya) was established in 2010 as one of the 31 NITs in India. Recognized as an Institution of National Importance, it is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The institute currently operates from a temporary campus in Shillong (Bijni Complex), while a modern permanent campus is under development on a 300-acre plot in Sohra (Cherrapunjee). Location: Bijni Complex, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, Meghalaya - 793003. Affiliation: Autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Education. Approval: Approved by AICTE and recognized by UGC. Institute Type: Government (National Importance). Advanced Laboratory & Infrastructure NIT Meghalaya has prioritized building research-grade laboratory facilities to support its undergraduate and burgeoning doctoral programs. Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF): Inaugurated in 2022, the CIF provides access to sophisticated analytical tools like FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy), Powder XRD, and Metallic 3D Printers. It serves as a multidisciplinary research hub for all departments. Mechanical Engineering Labs: Includes specialized facilities like the Rapid Manufacturing Lab, Advanced Manufacturing Lab, and Thermal Science Lab. The department also features a dedicated Central Workshop. Civil Engineering Labs: Houses a Structural Analysis Laboratory, Hydraulic and Hydraulic Structure Lab, and a Transportation Engineering Lab, equipped with modern testing apparatus for earthquake-resistant construction research. Computing Facilities: Features a robust IT infrastructure with high-speed Wi-Fi across the 300-acre campus and dedicated computer labs for AI, Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing research. Other Facilities: A 1500-seat auditorium, separate residential hostels for over 1900 students, an indoor stadium, and a multi-specialty 150-room guest house.
