TSMU’s Compliance with NMC Guidelines for Indian Medical Aspirants
The National Medical Commission (NMC) does not publish a fixed list of approved foreign universities. Instead, it evaluates international medical degrees based on the standards outlined in the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021. TSMU meets these criteria, making it a reliable choice for Indian students pursuing an MBBS abroad.
Global Recognition
Tbilisi State Medical University is internationally recognized and officially listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). It is also acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other global medical bodies. This recognition ensures that degrees awarded by TSMU are valid under NMC regulations and accepted for licensing exams in India.
NEET Requirement
For Indian students, qualifying the NEET exam is a mandatory prerequisite to study medicine abroad. TSMU strictly enforces this rule and requires a valid NEET scorecard during the admission process. This not only aligns with NMC standards but also ensures eligibility to sit for the National Exit Test (NExT)—the upcoming licensure exam replacing FMGE in India.
Course Duration & Structure
The NMC mandates a minimum of 54 months (4.5 years) of academic and clinical training, followed by a 12-month compulsory internship. TSMU’s MD program spans 6 years, which includes:
-
5 years of classroom and clinical education
-
1 full year of internship conducted within Georgia
This structure fully complies with NMC’s duration and location requirements.
Medium of Instruction
According to NMC guidelines, the entire medical course, including lectures, practicals, and clinical rotations, must be taught in English. TSMU offers its MBBS program entirely in English, ensuring that Indian students meet this criterion without any language barriers.
Clinical Training Standards
The NMC requires that both the academic training and internship be completed at the same institution and within the same country. TSMU’s curriculum is designed to provide consistent clinical exposure throughout the program, with the final-year internship conducted in affiliated hospitals across Georgia. This ensures full compliance with NMC’s clinical training standards.
By aligning its curriculum, language of instruction, and admission policies with NMC’s FMGL regulations, TSMU ensures that Indian graduates are well-prepared to return home, clear the NExT exam, and begin their medical careers in India with confidence.
