The First Moscow State Medical University (FMSMU)

The First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University), situated in Moscow, Russia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical universities in the country. Recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), WHO, and various international medical bodies, its MBBS degree holds global validity, including in India. NMC Eligibility Criteria for MBBS in Russia (Applicable for FMSMU)

Indian students aspiring to pursue MBBS at the First Moscow State Medical University must satisfy the eligibility standards defined by the National Medical Commission (NMC), India:

Eligibility Aspect Requirement
Age Candidates must be 17 years or above on or before 31st December of the admission year.
Academic Qualification Minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in Class 12 for General/EWS students. For SC/ST/OBC students, at least 40% marks are required.
Entrance Exam NEET qualification is mandatory (General/EWS – 50th percentile, SC/ST/OBC – 40th percentile).
University Recognition The university must be NMC-approved (FMSMU is recognized by NMC).

 

NMC Standards for Foreign Medical Graduates

As per the NMC Gazette 2021, Indian students pursuing MBBS abroad (including at Sechenov University) should ensure the following conditions are met:

  • The MBBS program must have a minimum duration of 54 months (FMSMU provides a 6-year MBBS course).

  • A 1-year compulsory internship must be completed (FMSMU offers hands-on training in its own teaching hospitals and partner clinics).

  • The entire MBBS course, including internship, must be undertaken outside India.

  • The medium of instruction should be English or Russian (FMSMU offers an English-medium MBBS program for foreign students).

  • After graduation, students must clear the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) or the upcoming NEXT Exam in India to gain a license to practice medicine.
