Fired by the zeal to create world-class institutions, Bapuji Dental College was founded in the year 1979 by Dr. Shamanur Shivashankarappa. Guided by great visionaries in Indian Dentistry, the college has grown by leaps and bounds and celebrated its silver jubilee in 2004. The college is now headed by Dr. K. Sadashiva Shetty, one of Indias leading faces in Orthodontics. He is the transformational guardian in making the college from being one of Indias best dental colleges to that of Asias.  On July 31st 2019.   Dr. K. Sadashiva Shetty reappointed as the Director.

Affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and approved by the Dental Council of India, the college offers undergraduate (BDS), postgraduate (MDS), and doctoral programs in dentistry. The BDS program spans five years, including one year of compulsory internship, while the MDS program is a three-year course offered in various specialties such as Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Oral Medicine, and Pedodontics. The institution also offers a full-time PhD program for candidates holding an MDS degree from recognized universities. The campus is equipped with modern infrastructure, including advanced preclinical and clinical laboratories, spacious lecture halls, and a well-stocked library with access to national and international journals.
