Overview
Government Dental College, Kozhikode is the second dental college in the Government sector started as early as 1981.
We have been catering to the special dental needs of the patients in the Malabar region for more than 40 years. Our training programs are focused on the provision of quality educational experiences to train clinically competent dentists and develop advocates and dental leaders to address the oral health issues of the community. We achieve this through service, training, teaching and research. Established in 1981, Government Dental College, Kozhikode is one of Kerala’s most prestigious institutions for dental education. Located within the Calicut Medical College campus, the college is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, and recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI). Over the years, it has earned a reputation for academic excellence, clinical training, and community-oriented dental care. The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in dentistry. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a five-year course comprising four years of academic instruction and one year of compulsory rotating internship. Admission to the BDS program is strictly based on merit, determined by performance in the NEET-UG examination and subsequent counseling conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. The annual intake for the BDS program is 50 students, making it one of the most competitive government dental colleges in the state.
At the postgraduate level, the college offers the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in several specialties including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Radiology, and Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. Admission to MDS programs is based on NEET-MDS scores and follows a centralized counseling process. The campus spans 2.42 acres and is equipped with modern infrastructure to support both academic and clinical training. The college has well-furnished lecture halls, advanced laboratories, and a comprehensive library with access to digital resources. The dental hospital attached to the college caters to a large patient base, offering students extensive hands-on experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient care. Specialty clinics within the hospital are equipped with state-of-the-art dental chairs and diagnostic tools, ensuring exposure to a wide range of procedures.
