Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal stands as a pillar of medical education and healthcare in Telangana. Established in 1959, it is among the state's oldest and most esteemed medical institutions. Affiliated with the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), KMC is committed to delivering high-quality medical education and training.
History and Legacy
The college was founded by the Warangal Regional Medical Education Society with significant contributions from the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the Director of Medical Services of Andhra Pradesh, and the Warangal District Collector. The institution was inaugurated on July 23, 1959, by Sri P. Karmarkar, the Minister of Health, Government of India. Initially housed in a building donated by the Pingale family at Waddepally, KMC moved to its permanent site in November 1961. The permanent building was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 47 lakhs and was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1966 .
Campus and Infrastructure
KMC boasts an expansive campus spanning 152.17 acres, making it one of the largest medical colleges in India. The campus includes state-of-the-art facilities such as lecture halls, hostels, staff quarters, a canteen, and a bank. The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH), affiliated with the college, provides comprehensive healthcare services and serves as a training ground for students.
Academic Programs
KMC offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various medical disciplines. The undergraduate program admits 250 students annually through the NEET examination. Postgraduate courses were introduced in 1972 and are recognized by the Medical Council of India. The college offers MD and MS programs across various specialties, including Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Anatomy, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, and Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) .
