Overview
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), Muzaffarpur, is a premier government engineering institute in Bihar, India, established in 1954 as the College of Civil Engineering, Muzaffarpur. It began with a focus on civil engineering and a batch of 45 students. The foundation stone was laid by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on April 21, 1956. In 1960, it was renamed Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology after adding mechanical and electrical engineering departments. Over the years, it expanded to include pharmacy (1978), leather technology (1986), information technology and electronics & communication engineering (2001), and more recent additions like computer science, chemical engineering, and biomedical & robotics engineering. The institute is administered by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Bihar, and is fully funded by the state government. It is affiliated with Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna, and operates with the motto "Sarvopari Karma" (Work is above everything else). MIT aims to be a model engineering college and supports research and development activities in Bihar. Lab Details Each department at MIT Muzaffarpur is equipped with specialized laboratories to support the curriculum and research: Civil Engineering: Surveying Lab, Soil Mechanics Lab, Concrete Lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, and Structural Engineering Lab. Mechanical Engineering: Internal Combustion (IC) Engine Lab, Heat & Mass Transfer Lab, Material Testing Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, and a Central Workshop. Electrical & Electronics: Power Systems Lab, Control Systems Lab, Electrical Machines Lab, and Microprocessor Lab. Leather Technology: Tanning Lab, Chemical Analysis of Leather Lab, and Footwear & Leather Goods Designing Lab. Computing Facilities: A Central Computer Centre with high-speed Wi-Fi (NMEICT) and language labs.
