Overview
Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW), situated in Lavale, Pune, is a pioneering institution dedicated exclusively to women's medical education. Established in 2020 under the aegis of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), the college was inspired by the life of India's first female doctor, Dr. Anandibai Joshi. The vision of Prof. Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, Founder and Chancellor of Symbiosis, led to the creation of SMCW with the aim of empowering women and increasing their representation in the medical profession.
SMCW offers a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program with an annual intake of 150 students. Admissions are based on merit through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) and are conducted via the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) counseling process. The college is affiliated with the Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre (SUHRC), a state-of-the-art facility that provides students with comprehensive clinical training and exposure to diverse medical cases. The campus boasts modern infrastructure, including advanced laboratories, a fully air-conditioned library stocked with national and international medical journals, and comfortable residential facilities. As a fully residential college, all students are required to reside on campus, fostering a focused and collaborative learning environment. The college also emphasizes holistic development through various extracurricular activities and wellness programs
