NMC eligibility standards
Key NMC Eligibility Guidelines for Foreign Medical Graduates
NEET-UG Requirement
Qualifying the NEET-UG exam is mandatory for admission to any foreign medical university. This is a critical prerequisite for obtaining a medical license to practice in India after graduation.
Program Duration
The MBBS course must span a minimum of 54 months (4.5 years), encompassing both academic instruction and practical training. This must be followed by a compulsory 12-month clinical internship, completed at the same foreign medical university or an affiliated hospital in Georgia.
Language of Instruction
All components of the program, including theoretical education, clinical training, and internship, must be conducted and assessed entirely in English.
Continuity of Education
The NMC mandates that the entire medical education, including the internship, be completed at a single institution within the same country. Transferring between universities or studying across multiple countries is not permitted.
Local Medical Licensure
Upon graduation, candidates must be eligible for registration and licensure to practice medicine in Georgia. This local recognition is essential for the degree to be accepted by the NMC in India.
National Exit Test (NEXT)
After fulfilling all academic and regulatory requirements, graduates must pass the National Exit Test (NEXT) to obtain a license to practice medicine in India. This exam will replace the current Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
